Abstract

This article argues that algorithmic processes of artificial intelligence in migration contexts, particularly ImmigrationOS, suppress the conditions of possibility under which human rights are constituted within the narrative identity of the self as the other. This paper proposes a hermeneutic understanding of human rights, as opposed to theories that seek to establish their foundations, that takes into account the specific historical contexts in which they are experienced and narrated. To understand human rights, this paper analyzes narrative identity (idem and ipse) based on Paul Ricoeur’s philosophical framework, in which the subject recognizes himself as a person capable of acting, narrating, speaking, and taking responsibility for his own actions. It is concluded that forced migration interrupts the conditions for the migrant’s narrative construction, and that the use of artificial intelligence suppresses their narrative distinctiveness, nullifies their capacity for imputation, and denies the relational and institutional conditions that make their recognition possible.
