Family and Religious Freedom in Brazil. Outlines and challenges

Abstract

The article addresses issues related to reli- gious freedom within the family in Brazil, more specifically: the historical difficulties of state recognition of marriages perfor- med by certain minority religions; some challenges related to the possibility of state intervention limiting the rights of parents in the religious upbringing of their children; and the debate on the constitutionality of homeschooling and confessional religious teaching in public schools. The work is descriptive —based on historical, legislative and jurisprudential research— and analyti- cal, highlighting controversial (or not yet well decided) aspects of the topics cover.
