Focus and Scope

Revista IUS (Mexico) is a Scientific Journal published by the Institute of Legal Sciences of Puebla A.C., which aims to disclose research results in the Legal Science field of the Ibero-American region.

With the goal to be a space for dialogue and debate among researchers, academics and students of law and related disciplines, the journal publishes original research articles that are the result of empirical and theoretical studies of all areas of law and related sciences, which They have a specific subject matter of current and scientific innovation in each issue. To ensure the scientific quality of the contents, the published articles go through a strict Double Blind Peer Review System.

 Revista IUS (Mexico) has a biannual frequency (January-June / July-December) and has a printed version (ISSN 1870-2147) and an electronic version in Open Access, with which the Institute of Legal Sciences of Puebla A.C. contributes to the transmission of scientific knowledge.

Peer Review Process

The articles will be subject to an initial review by the director of the journal and the coordinator for the paper, who will communicate to the author its acceptance or rejection, as based on its compliance with the editorial norms and correspondence with the topics covered.

Once accepted, the article will be submitted for consideration under the journal’s system of double-blind peer review, conducted by an international portfolio of reviewers and specialists invited on an ad hoc basis.

The review process is conducted based on the following aspects:

(a) Pertinence to the selected topic; (b) Scientific quality; (c) rigour of the scientific apparatus; and, (d) expositive coherence.

The reviewers will be given a month to make their decision/recommendation, the conclusion of which may be one of the following:

(1) Accepted; (b) Admitted prior to the review of the indications; and, (3) Rejected.

In the event of a discrepancy among the reviewers, the director of the journal will seek the opinion of a third specialist. The final publishing decision will be taken by the Editorial Board and communicated to the author.

 

Publication Frequency

Given the nature of the thematic profile of IUS, this publication presents its contents in a massive way once the monograph in question is complete. The journal is published every six months: January and June.

Open Access Policy

The Revista IUS (México) subscribes to the Open Access model for the publishing of its electronic and printed versions, in line with the current movement to open up scientific information to the democratization of knowledge.

Thus, based on copyright law, the recognition of the moral and economic rights of all authors publishing their work in Revista IUS (México) will be guaranteed.

These rights will be ceded to the Legal Sciences Institute of Puebla, A.C., publisher of Revista IUS (México), via the Waiver of rights for the publication and dissemination of articles in Revista IUS (México), for their work to be disseminated by means of any medium via the Open Access model.

All content in Revista IUS (México) will be distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license, under which third parties are permitted to copy and redistribute the content in any format, as well as reusing information from Revista IUS (México), provided that the authorship of the information is recognized and the fact that it was first published in Revista IUS (México) is explicitly stated.

In accordance with the Open Access policy of Revista IUS (México), subsequent to the publication of the article, the Legal Sciences Institute of Puebla A.C. authorizes its authors to place a postprint version of the article in the Open Access repositories, academic social media, personal websites and other platforms used for the exclusive purposes of dissemination, explicitly indicating that this was first published in Revista IUS (México), with the corresponding hyperlinks given in the e-version of the publication. 

Model of sponsorship and charges for management of articles

Revista IUS (Mexico) is an Open Access publication financed by the Institute of Legal Sciences of Puebla A.C., so it does not charge any fees to its authors for the publication of their articles.

Code of ethics

In order to safeguard the scientific quality of its contents and ensure ethical practices in the publishing process, Revista IUS (México) subscribes to the Code of Ethics established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Plagiarism detection

All proposed contributions to Revista IUS (México) must by reviewed by anti-plagiarism software approved by the Editorial Board, wherein 20% coincidence with work already published in a research article and 25% coincidence with a peer-reviewed article would lead to the automatic rejection of the contribution.

Requirements for participating as Guest Editor

The content of each issue of Revista IUS explores a thematic axis developed via theoretical and empirical contributions from within the legal and social sciences.

The topics are defined based on the contemporary agenda of problems / topics relevant to Ibero America, as well as their academic relevance to discussion within the international research circuit.

The selection of the thematic axes is proposed by the Editorial Board, while their viability is evaluated by the International Scientific Committee, which is responsible for guaranteeing the scientific relevance of said selection.

Thus, each issue is edited in collaboration with the Guest Editors, who may either apply to participate or are invited by the Editorial Board.

The Guest Editors are responsible for accompanying the journal’s Executive Editor throughout the editing process up to the day of publication.

The selection and invitation of the Guest Editors are conducted based on the following criteria:

a) A doctorate in either law or an area from the social sciences that corresponds to the proposed publication topic.

 b) To be enrolled in/affiliated to a higher education institution, research centre or institute in Mexico, and to be a member of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores (SNI or National System of Researchers) of the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología(CONACyT).

Those enrolled in/affiliated to a foreign institution must be recognized by said institution and/or the body certifying the quality of scientific production in said country.

c) To be working as an active researcher with recent scientific production (articles in international scientific journals, books, chapters of books and participation in international congresses) in the areas of knowledge covered by the issue.

d) To be able to demonstrate active participation in national and international research networks and groups.

e) To have an ORCIDm number. 

 

Guest Editors will be responsible for the following actions:

a)    Permanent communication with the Executive Editor.

b)    Dissemination of the call for papers corresponding to the issue.

c)    Circular with personalized invitations to academics and researchers with a renowned/recognized academic career.

d)    Receive the proposed abstracts and decide on their viability for inclusion in the issue. 

e)    Write the introduction to the issue.

f)     Review the galleys of the issue prior to publication.

g)    Propose academic spaces for the presentation of the journal.

h)    Other activities related to editorial work.

Guest Editors may propose only one research article for the issue they are coordinating.

As with other articles proposed, this will be subject to an editorial review process and a peer-review process, in accordance with IUS editorial criteria.

The call for thematic issues (issue), submission deadlines for contributions and the names of the Guest Editors will be announced in the editorial calendar, which can be consulted on the journal’s official website: www.revistaius.com

Editorial decisions

On 14 September 2016, the Editorial Committee of the Legal Sciences Institute of Puebla A.C. announced the following with regard to all contributions proposed for review: they must be original; they must be subject to the journal’s thematic lines and the formats set out in the Section Policies; they must present results obtained using ethical research practices; they must be unpublished and may, thus, not be simultaneously proposed to another journal, or be published in another review (in any language); and, must not be disseminated via another platform or media. 

The proposal, review and editorial management process will be undertaken via the Open Journal Systems platform (https://revistaius.com/index.php/ius), with the author signing as corresponding author solely responsible for the management of the contribution.

All authors will receive email notification from the Open Journal Systems platform as to the status of the editorial process for the documents proposed for review.

To begin the proposal process, the authors are required to ensure that the proposed document is produced under the format set out in the Directives for Authors and the requirements established in the Checklist for the Preparation of Submissions.

Subsequently, the editorial team and the Executive Editor will have 30 calendar days in which to complete the editorial review and, thus, approve or reject the contribution.

This process comprises four stages:

   I. Review of the thematic relevance of the contribution to Revista IUS (México).

In the event that the document is suitable for neither the thematic profile of the call for papers nor the Section Policies, it will be immediately rejected.

   II. The contribution must be subject to an exhaustive review by means of an antiplagiarism tool, which will guarantee the originality and unpublished status of the document.

In the event that the tool identifies a 25 % level of coincidence with any other previously published document or one disseminated on any platform, it will be automatically rejected.

    III. The document will be subject to an exhaustive review under the format established in the Directives for Authors and the Checklist for the Preparation of Submissions.

In the event that not all the established criteria are fulfilled, the contribution will be automatically rejected.

    IV.  Priority will be given to the subsequent review phases for those documents complying with the following characteristics: 1) Content linked to the subsequent thematic issues, as established in the Revista IUS (México) issue timetable; and, 2) The bibliography must be up-to-date and in compliance with Official Standard ISO 690 and, preferably, compiled using a digital reference manager.

If the contribution passes the four phases corresponding to the editorial review, the Executive Editor will notify the corresponding author that their contribution has been accepted and will now be subject to the Peer Review process.

Peer Review

To guarantee the scientific quality of the content published in Revista IUS (México), the editorial team will subject all proposed contributions to the double-blind peer review system.

Subsequent to the contribution successfully passing the editorial review, the peer review will be conducted under the following process on the website of the Open Journal Systems platform:

1) The Executive Editor will send the contribution to two anonymous peer reviewers.

Peer reviewers must be a researcher or professional external to the journal’s editorial institution and an expert on the topic covered in the text to be reviewed.

2. The designated peer reviewer will have 30 calendar days to produce their decision/recommendation and submit to the Executive Editor the Peer Reviewer Form, which must contain a critical and exhaustive evaluation based on the following criteria.

  1. thematic relevance and originality in the context of the academic discipline
  2. methodological rigour
  3. mastery of the topic and a coherent theoretical framework
  4. scientific contribution and argumentative solidity to the thesis it presents
  5. that the sources used are rigorous and up-to-date
  6. writing, orthography and expository quality
  7. correspondence of the conclusions and contributions with the established objectives

3) The results of the decision/recommendation may be:

a) Accepted without corrections;

b) Accepted with corrections (wherein modifications are proposed relating to grammatical issues, the presentation of information, methodological justification, and the clarification of the data obtained, among others); or,

c) Rejected;

4) In order for the contribution to be accepted for publication, is must have received two positive decisions/recommendations (accepted and/or accepted with corrections), while a third decision/recommendation is obtained when the contribution is rejected by one of the peer reviewers and accepted by the other, for which reason the Executive Editor will send the document to a third peer reviewer for review.

5) The decisions/recommendations will be unappealable.

6) After they have received the decisions/recommendations from the peer reviewers, the Executive Editor will be responsible for ensuring that the reviews were undertaken responsibly and ethically and that the rubrics established in the section were analysed/applied during the process 2. This review must not last longer than 10 calendar days.

7. If the Executive Editor finds that the decisions/recommendations were undertaken in accordance with Criterion 6, they will have five calendar days to notify the corresponding author of the decision/recommendation:

a) Accepted:

The articles accepted under these criteria then begin the publication process (proofreading, design, layout, metadata tagging) om order to generate a preliminary version of the article.

Similarly, the author will be notified of the result of the decision/recommendation and will then be required to submit the Waiver of rights for the publication and dissemination of articles in Revista IUS (México) within five days, with the waiver required to be signed by each of the authors.

b) Accepted with corrections:

The Executive Editor will notify the corresponding author of the result of the decision/recommendation, with the latter given 20 calendar  days in order to submit the new version with the requested corrections made, along with the Changes derived from the decision/recommendation form, which will contain a list of the changes made as a result of the peer review process.

The Executive Editor, together with the editorial team, will check that the changes requested were implemented and, in the event that the review is accepted, the document will begin the same publishing process to that undergone by accepted articles.

In the event that the author does not submit the corrections in the established time period, the article will have to be proposed for publication again.

c) Rejected: The Executive Editor will notify the corresponding author of the decision/recommendation.

Subsequent to both the completion of the design process for the publication of the article and the reception of the waivers of economic rights, the issue will be sent to the issue coordinator, who will review the status of the editing process in order to ensure the quality of the editing in accordance with the proofreading form submitted by the Executive Editor.

Requirements for the submission of articles

Any article proposed for possible publication in the Revista IUS (Mexico), will be managed through the Open Journal Systems platform with the following documentation:

I. Registration data: specific information on each of the authors, which will be provided through the OJS interface of the IUS Magazine (Mexico).

II. Letter of declaration of originality for articles: signed in a handwritten form by each one of the authors, in this document the author who will function as author of correspondence of the article.

III.  Attach the complete article: The final version of the document (modifications are not accepted once the proposal process has begun).

IV.  Waiver of economic rights: This document must be signed by each of the authors and will be attached once the article has been approved for publication.

Requirements for the proposal and submission of original articles

To propose an original article to Revista IUS (México) on the OJS platform, the authors must take the following criteria into account:

I.   Attach the text content of the article in Word format. Documents in PDF formats will not be accepted.

II.  In the event that the article includes images and/or photographs, these must be attached in electronic format of a minimum 300 dpi resolution.

In the event that the article includes graphs, charts and tables, these have to be submitted separately via spreadsheets, as images of graphs, charts and tables are not accepted.

III.  In the event that images and/or photographs are not the property of the authors, they must either possess the economic rights of these graphical elements or the corresponding permission for their reproduction and reuse.
